Our Reason Why
Our reason why seems to make more sense than just explaining our story.
after our Co-founder, Lori Borchers, tragically lost her daughter. Ashlee passed away from an opioid overdose on 09/11/2013 at the age of 23 years old.
Ashlee’s smile lit up a room and her laugh was contagious. She was strong-willed and not afraid to stand up for what she believed in. Ashlee was a loving sister who adored her brothers dearly. She was extremely intelligent and an exceptional artist. Ashlee could have had a beautiful life ahead of her but she struggled to cope with the traumas she had suffered and turned to drugs to relieve the pain.
Soon after Ashlee passed away, Lori set up a memorial fund in her name. Donors continued to contribute to the fund. Through the years, the money was used to improve the lives of those suffering whether due to grief or addiction. Inspired by the work they were doing, Lori and her husband Shane formed the nonprofit Project Fireflies.
